Martial Arts
Wing-Chun
Wing Chun, or “Eternal Spring Boxing”, is a form of Chinese boxing several centuries old and of controversial origins. It’s an effective system of defense and body training that combines the principles of internal (Nei-jia) and external (Wei-jia) Chinese styles.
The principles that characterize it make it a subtle martial art, specializing in close-range, low-amplitude movements. The value of the “boxing of eternal spring” lies in optimized management of the forces present during the contact phase, and is particularly illustrated in the sticky hands exercise (Chi-sao).
The Wing Chun system is considered by its strategy to be a martial art of close combat. In many respects, Wing Chun can be compared to Xing yi. The movements are short, the angles closed and they occupy the center, the strikes are linear and percussive. Reactions are immediate and contained within a small space.

The Wing Chun teaching system offers a progressive approach adapted to each individual, enabling students to gradually refine their ability to feel the different forces exerted on their body, and to develop the ability to fight “blind” when making contact with their opponent.
It also creates a “unified body”, drawing from it an elasticity capable of absorbing and neutralizing powerful attacks and using force in a spontaneous response.

I think it's very rare to have martial arts teaching of this quality in a village, just a stone's throw from home, and it's invaluable.
