Martial Arts
Aunkaï
A discipline founded by Sensei Minoru Akuzawa, bujutsu Aunkai can be considered as the art of forging the body, optimizing it so that it can move freely whatever constraints are placed upon it.
Repetition of the basics, over and over again, enables a deep and subtle journey into the “arcana” of body structure and movement optimization.
In Bujustu Aunkai, we don’t accumulate technical knowledge; the body becomes the technique.
In this sense, this discipline is also an excellent means of correcting structural and morphological disorders which, by extension, have an effect on our physiology and psychology.
Some practitioners even consider it an “osteopatic” discipline.
The basic exercises of Bujutsu Aunkai (Tanren) enable us to become aware of our own tensions and body imbalances.
Through repetition, the body enters the “forge”. It warms, tones and relaxes. Thus more malleable, like the piece of steel forged to create the Katana blade, the body becomes more efficient and denser over time, optimizing its capacity for inertia and mobility.

Exercises performed with a partner(Kunren) allow you to test the skills generated by the Tanren. The partner’s weight, density, intention and morphology are all parameters that enable us to refine and correct our posture.
Tanren and Kunren are also performed with the help of a Rokushakubo. This long, heavy and dense stick is a uncompromising corrector of our alignments and body axes. It also brings to light our unnecessary tensions and helps us to dilute them. With a partner, it forms a direct link with the opposite body structure.
In Bujutsu Aunkai, the body stretches, goes vertical, lines up, connects. So we’re not talking about fighting techniques, but aboutbody optimization.
Application practice is an essential component of Bujutsu Aunkai. They engage body and mind in a freer, more martial context, allowing us to test principles and develop our ability to adapt to constraints in the moment.

I think it's very rare to have martial arts teaching of this quality in a village, just a stone's throw from home, and it's invaluable.
